Networking stopped after new OS load

By mark-it ·
I have a Dell Dimension with a 3COM905C NIC. The Dell came with Win98 3 years ago. I've networked this desktop with several other computers in my home through a D-Link hub. Just recently, I reformatted the hard drive and installed Win2K. I got all new drivers off the web (via Dell) and installed them. Now I can no longer connect to other computers on my home network. I can ping the loopback IP address (127.0.0.1), however, when I go to ping any other IP I get an error code 65. Dell is lost at what could be going on. Do any of you IT professionals have any ideas on what could be going on???? Everything else on the desktop seems to be running just fine. The 3COM NIC diagnostic utility says the NIC is working just fine. In Device Manager, everything appears just fine. I'm stumped.

Networking stopped after new OS load

by saihib In reply to Networking stopped after ...

When you attempt to verify network connectivity with another computer on the local network or on the Internet by using the TCP/IP Ping.exe command-line utility, you may receive a command-line error message similar to the following:

Ping: transmit failed, error code 65
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
The Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) feature is enabled.

-and-
Firewall software from Zone Labs such as ZoneAlarm or ZoneAlarm Pro is installed on the computer.

-and-
The ZoneLabs program is not correctly configured for ICS.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, do one of the following as appropriate to your situation:
Configure ZoneAlarm for ICS support. Please consult the program documentation or see the Zone Labs Web site for more information about how to configure ZoneAlarm for ICS. -or-

Remove the Zone Labs firewall software from the computer. Please consult the program documentation or contact Zone Labs at the ZoneLabsWeb site for more information about how to do this.
