Networking W2K & W98

Have 2 W98se pc that can browse network OK. The W2k pro pc cannot see any network. All network communicates OK. Can ping all OK. Internet connection is good via cable modem. At times have managed to get the W2k pc to browse untill it is next shutdown or crashes,the mapped drives etc are then not available. Had this problem before upgrading to Netgear FR314 Firewall Router so dont think this is problem. Think problem is W2K.Have checked settings but cant see where I am going wrong.Any assistancewould be appreciated. Please help
