Networking win2k and winme & win98 pc's

By collins_ms ·
I'm attempting to share printers on my win2k Pro and my win98 pc. I've created a workgroup of which we all belong to. The win98 and win me pc's can see each other, though the win2k can see the workgroup, it cannot see the members of the workgroup.

Also, in network neighborhood, the win98 pc cannot see the printer attached to it though it is a shared resource. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

As usual, sometimes, if you do not specify win9x/ME pcs to share something, they would not be seen by others on the workgroup. Try sharing something on those win9x/ME machines.

Also, check to make sure all PC using same subnet and same workgroup name.

For the printers part, you might have given the shared printer a longer name and 8.3 naming convention. Cause win9x/ME does not support longer names for printer sharing. Try re-sharing with a shorter name.

Hope this helps.

When using Win2K in a workgroup you have to create accounts for every user on the Win2K machine. Microsoft has a lengthy article about setting up machines in this situation.
