Networking Windows Vista & Mac OS 9

By mreigel6 ·
I am trying to set up a wireless network to include a laptop PC (OS Vista) an IBook OS X.? and a Mac desktop running on OS 9. Got any ideas? What router might work best? I think OS 9 maybe the problem. I also have a rather old modem, should I replace that? (Provider is Comcast)

Not really a Mac person.

Do these machines need to access shares on each other? Windows uses SMB, so you need to specify when connecting from the Mac to Windows. I have no idea if your flavor of Vista allows you to install File & Print Services for Macintosh, but because windows uses NTLM, you might also have to set them to transmit the authentication in plaintext rather than the hash.

To enable plaintext password options, follow these steps:
1. In Computer Management, click System Tools.
2. Right-click Shared Folder, and then click Configure File Server for Macintosh.
3. Under Security, for Enable authentication, click Apple Clear Text or Microsoft.
