There is a simple solution

I assume you are not having any difficulties with your laptop wireless connection.

Your desktop may or may not have a built-in wireless chip. If it does, you can configure it from the Network wizard in the Control Panel.

My guess is that the desktop does not have a wireless adapter built in. It will be simpler (and less expensive) for you to simply obtain a separate wireless adapter for the desktop.

These come in several flavors. You could add an adapter card to the expansion port of the motherboard behind the desktop. Alternatively, consider the Linksys USB wireless adapter:

Simply install the Linksys driver from the supplied CD, and insert the adapter into the front USB port of your desktop whenever you want to wirelessly connect.

How about

letting us know the make and model of the wireless adaptor that you are using. Has it got Ethernet Ports. If it has you could use a patch lead to connect your PC if it has a Network Interface Card. Or is the Notebook picking up the connection on its own. If this is the case you will need a Wireless USB adaptor as has been suggested.
