So the current setup goes as follows:
Shaw Business Cable Internet Connection
to
Linksys Wired Router
to
D-Link DES-1024R+ (24 port switch)
to
22 ethernet connections in a residential building network.
We have decided to get two Shaw Home Extreme Connections (so 2 seperate modem connections) and are now trying to decide the best way to set up our network.
To me the obvious options are:
1) Get a Second router and second switch and have one dedicated line for half of the rooms and another line for the other half.
2)Get a load balancing router (2 internet inputs) and have that router connect to the switch. The advantage of the load balancing router is that is has QoS functionality.
3) Get a 2 uplink port switch like the: D-LINK 24PORT 10/100 Rackmount Switch W/ 2 Gigabit Ports
and have one internet connection to router to switch per internet line.
Which do you think is best option? Keep in mind this is for university students who download heavily and likely won’t cap their downloads.
