Networking with Win98 and Win2000

By Abio ·
I have setup a simple peer-to-peer network that include systems with both Win98 and Win2000. Now the Win98 systems cannot "see" the Win2000 systems in the Network Neighbourhood. How can I make the two OS to interconnect and share resources?

Simply make sure that you share the same workgroup throughout and that all the machines share the same protocol. For a per-to-per you should use NetBUEI.

Good luck!
P.S. If you need help locating where to check the above, feel free to email me.

Make sure that both computers are using a compatable set of protocols. Each machine should be in the same workgroup. Last the user name of the person logged onto the win9x machine must be given permissions through computer management.

Go to network neighborhood in the control panel, select the configuration tab then delete the protocols you have configured, now click on the add button and select the appropiate protocols, then reboot system.

Hello Abio!
First of all if you connected the two systems with straight cat5 cabling and no hub, you won't see your network. Second, make sure your NIC cards have been properly configured ie; IRQ settings, Drivers ...etc. Third makesure that they are using the same protocols, all you really need is TCP/IPand make sure they're in the same Class network for example: 172.1.211.203 the other PC would be 172.1.211.204. The workgroup has to be same on both systems. Check to see if they both have Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing in the Network Neighbourhood properties.

Good Luck!

Make sure that your WIN2K machines are not formatted using NTFS5. WIN9x will never "see" them. Also, make sure everybody has 'File and Print " installed. And share a few things on your test machines.
