new browser not new window

By mark ·
I want to click a button/link on a main menu and get
a new browser to open.

This is different than a new window which you can get with
href target= or window.open

in windows2000
under task manager processes
it should show 2 or moreinstances of Iexplore.exe

start -> run -> iexplore ...

by Jay Eckles In reply to new browser not new windo ...

There's no way you can force a user to start a new instance of the browser (or any application) through HTML or Javascript. Those languages are browser-neutral (at least in their standard forms) and as such don't know anything about "instances" of the browser. To allow such control over the client's computer would be a security problem.

Perhaps if you tell us what you're trying to do I or some other readers can make some better suggestions.

Good luck.

I am doing this for someone else and am not sure why he needs it to do this.
