Recently, I’ve discovered that when I try to create a new folder, I can’t. Right clicking on the desktop and in Windows Explorer reveals no “new” option, nor is it under File. If I click on “make a new folder” link on the left of Windows Explorer, nothing happens. Doing a little research, I think my registry has been corrupted, probably during a software issue a few weeks back that affected the registry. This seems to be the closest thing to an answer that I’ve found so far – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180257
However, when I go to my registry and try to edit the key I’m directed to, there isn’t anything there. I go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers but there is no \New. I don’t edit the registry much, so I’m not familiar with it. Can I just create that folder and enter the value I need? I do have the copy of the registry from a few weeks ago that would most likely have the proper value, but that reintroduces the problem I had with the registry then.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I can’t kill this computer, at least not during work hours..
