New folder in "My docs" for redirection

By Litus ·
On Active Directory Users and Computers, I have an OU with a Group Policy. On User Configuration, Windows Settings, Folder Redirection, there are some folders that is possible to redirect. In concret "My Documents" folder and "My Pictures" folder. Iwant to add some news folders like "My Pictures" into "My Documents", for example "My films" and "My texts" and then I need to redirect It to a new location, specifiing the location for various user groups.
It's possible to make that? (First add new folders on Group Policy and second redirect It for user grups?)
Perhaps I need to modify the Registry? Some ideas?

Thans a lot

Carles

yes it can be done with group policy, go create a group policy for all the users of the domain and when ever a user first login into the server then the server\workstation creates the user profile ie., mydocuments desktop and etc., and it will be redirected to server after he logoff and it was copied to the server, while greating the GP

just enter the unc path \\servername\users\%username% where servername is the name of the server hosting the shares.

i hope this will help for your problem.

No! this not help me! I have 500 users grouped in 8-10 groups (A, B, C, ...). Some users belongs to more than one group. I want that ALL users in group A have a subfolder im "My Documents" that point to the same location, ALL users in group B have a subfolder in "My Documents" that point to another location, ... Periodically the users change from one group/s to another/s. I want to manage this from the Active Directory. In folder redirection appears some folders (My Pictures, My Documents, Desktop, ...) and I want to add more folder inside My Documents, like My Pictures. Then I want redirect It.

Hi,

You would have to create 2 Organizational Units. One for group A and one for group B. Then configure a group policy for each of the OUs. You can then have 2 different redirection locations, and you will be able to move users from one group to another.

in the group policy, under User Configuration, double-click Windows Settings. Double-click Folder Redirection. Click My Documents.
On the Action menu, click Properties.
On the My Documents Properties page , in the Settings dropdown box select Advanced -- Specify locations for various user groups.

You can redirect the My Documents folder and My Pictures folder.

good luck,

But I want not to redirect "My Documents folder" It's OK that every user has his own "My Documents" folder (independent from other users). I want to redirect a subfolder inside "My Documents" and that folder is common for all users in a group. For example, ALL users in group A need a subfolder named A into "My Documents" and this folder point to \Films. ALL users in group B need a subfolder named B inside "My Documents" and this folder is redirectioned to \Temp\MP3. Some users belong to group A and group B together, and this users need A and B subfolders inside "My Documents". Is possible made that with Windows 2000 Advanced Server tools or I need an independent program? What program/utilitie made that?
Thanks a lot!!! (It's a question hard to answer, I know)

You might need to create a custom .adm template. It would allow you to add values to a group policy that are not inherently present. Here's a link to some generic information about creating custom .adm files 'http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/en/server/help/default.asp?url=/windows2000/en/server/help/sag_SPconcepts_34.htm'. Best bet would be to take a look at the entries for redirecting "My Documents" and use that as a framework for what you wish to accomplish. I have never attempted this so the best I can do is point you in this direction. Good Luck!
