New MB won't boot from HD

By cscrum ·
I recently purchased a new MB (ECS945GZT-M) with a Core 2 Duo processor and 1 Gig of RAM. I also bought a new HD. I hooked it all up and it recognized my DVD-RW drive, and the HD. I put in my XP Pro disk and ran the installation. Everything went fine until the reboot phase. It simply won;t boot from the HD. I keep getting the message "insert bootable disk and press any key". I've checked the BIOS and the HD is in the boot sequence. I've tride removing the DVD drive and have the HD be the only drive in the computer with the same results. I even tried a second new HD with the same results. I tried an old win2k disk I had as well with the same results. Does anyone know why the computer won't boot from the HD?

Don't install MS-Windoze Extreme Pain. Seriously, the first thing to try when Windoze fails is some other, more robust, operating system. This one only takes a few minutes to download and burn: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/download.html
and another few minutes to install. If DS Linux can't boot the drive, you have a BIOS or hardware problem. If it works, you have a Microsoft problem. Recently Fry's has been selling ECS boards with the BIOS 18 months out of date. They don't even recognize the CPUs they sell with them. Other discounters may be doing the same. So I'd be suspecting a BIOS issue with that brand of motherboard.

MB won't boot

Try installing Windows using a plain CD-R or RW that you know is working fine,
It seems that the problem may be with the DVD not initiating the second phase of the windows installation. The CD or DVD may be working fine otherwise except it will fail to install windows.
Hope it will work for you.
