    New Office bug after Windows update

    Win11, Laptop. Been working great for months. New windows update – then:

    Excel and word now don’t open on file click.

    Have to open the program with “run as admin.” Did reinstall of office, and much other stuff – still same.

      Let’s start with getting the problem clear.

      What file do you do the non-working click on, (1) the spreadsheet/document that you want to open or (2) the program (Winword.exe / Excel.exe)? Or do both methods fail?

      Try resetting file associations for Excel and Word: Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Set defaults by app, choose Microsoft Excel/Word, and set it as default. If issue persists, try a system restore to a point before the update or contact Microsoft support.
