New PC requirements

By Lord Foul ·
Hi, I have $1000AU to spend on a new PC box and would like to know good specs for the PC. I need to know motherboard type etc.
The processor needs to be 1500Mhz, P4 or AMD?
The RAM: 256Mb DDR, or is their better?
Geforce video card: the bigger the better.
all other componenets i already have. The main use of the PC will be multimedia mayhem w/ macromedia products and i would like to play some games on it as well.
Thanks

Starting with video card

Asus v8420DDR Deluxe GeForce4 - Ti4200 w/ 128MB DDR DVI/TVO
or
Asus v8440DDR GeForce4 - 4400 w/ 128MB DDR & TV-Out
Both should be retail boxes.

Memory I'd go with 512MB DDR either PC2100 or PC2700, this will depend on which CPU & MB you choose.

Motherboard, Asus P4S8X or Asus P4B533

I still like Intel Pentium 4, either the 2.2GHz or 2.4GHz

My choice

Asus P4S8X
Intel Pentium 4 2.4B GHz socket478 533FSB 512K
Asus v8420DDR Deluxe GeForce4 - Ti4200 w/ 128MB DDR DVI/TVO retail box
512MB DDR PC-333 PC2700

Your dollar & my Canadian dollar won't quite do it for $1000, but if you switch it to $1000 US
it'll work.

Works out to $1095 + 15% tax = $1259 CDN for me

I myself like Athlon CPUs
Go with at least a XP 1800, as your budget allows.

Get the latest ABIT motherboard with a RAID controller on board.
You don't need to set up a RAID array, but you get 2 additional IDE channels so that you can have the Hard drives, CD-ROM/DVD and CD-RW drives on seperate IDE channels.

I've been happy with the guillemont (Cardex) Nvidia based video cards.

Make sure you get a seperate sound card, and avoid on-board sound.

Make sure that you have plenty of fans and power.
I would seriously consider using a 500 Watt power supply.

Both processors are good performers and reliable. The biggest diffrence to me is price.
I will only recommend to sites for you to check out for yourself.

www.cybercomputersystems.com

This site will allow you to pick and choose exactly the componets you want installed using all top name componets. For what you stated you are looking for at your price range you can certainly fine what you need here below $1000.00 Canadion dollars with some change left over.

If you just want to pick up the componets seperatly and do it yourself then I would also recommend WWW.newegg.com. This is a computer supply warehouse selling parts at the lowest prices I have been able to find and what I like most is that all parts have a USER rating allowing you to see how people have had experince in using the [parts and there results.

I think that the internet has enough sites out there for you the BUYER to get your own opinion from and make your own decision for spending your money.

good luck
