Hi,
I have just upgraded my video card from a Radeon 9200SE 128mb AGP card to a XpertVision Radeon X1550 256mb AGP card.
When I installed the new video card the PC gets stuck and posts with unending short beeps, which I am led to believe in Award BIOS this means a PSU issue. I have an Antec 380W PSU so I find this hard to believe it is a PSU issue. I have 2 normal IDE HDD a CD Burner, and a DVD burner so I doubt there is an overload.
When I put the old video card back it boots fine, eliminating any memory issues. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G which has an AGP 8X slot. The old board is a 8X as well so I dont understand why it is not working. The only differences I can visually see is the new card has 1 long and 1 short slot tab whereas the old one has 3 short tabs, and the new one has a fan, the 9200SE does not.
I removed the old drivers before install but to no avail.
Would claering the CMOS fix this issue ?. I have not tried this yet as I don’t want to go there unless I have to.
Hope someone out there has the answer 🙂
