New Server Suggestions
I'm planning to buy a new server for our lan. Currently we have a Proliant ML370 G3, dual Xeon 2.8, 1.5GB ram, 72GB SCSII. OS is Server 2003 Premium, running SQL, Exchange (50 users), and a huge Visual Basic administrative application.
Please provide suggestions for a new one (Dell preferred), and if I need to buy another OS with client licences. We have 40 computers attached to the lan; Do I need to divide workload between the servers (example SQL in one server, Exchange in the other)?
Is enough with one server, and the other as a backup server?
I have doubts with the terminology: single ranked? dual ranked? primary controller? sata raid? scssi raid?

Please help!

How much email a day will be flowing through the Exchange system?

What will be the assumed processor and disk utilization of the SQL application?

Those three numbers should tell you is you need 1 2 or even more boxes.

You did not mentioned availability. What are your availability requirements?

Recall that 99.9% availability means that you will have to move to cluters to achieve.
