New to the administration team, what now?

By yukon0196 ·
Hey gurus,

I'm new on the job as a network administration team member, any advise on how to get my hands wet? What is next?

Talk to your team members

The fact that you are part of a team will be a big help. Just talk to the other team members. Over time they will cover every support issue in the course of normal conversation. The history of problems and solutions at your new job will be a big help to you doing your job.

document everything

Write down everything you do! Even if it seems simple or easy. If there is a knowledge base available, go through it as much a possible. If there isn't a KB then your own documents will be a good base to build one for use for your whole team.

Know the legalities

by gadgetgirl In reply to New to the administration ...

Get at least an outline of the legal side of what you're doing as soon as possible.

Digital evidence collection is a minefield; you need to know what NOT to do, and when NOT to do it.

You also need to know what you legally are allowed/not allowed to do/see and when you should report any incidents.

If you were in the UK, I could send you a raft of info, but your laws are totally different to ours!
