Newbie Engineer….. need advice from Senior Engineers

by arv_1978 . Updated 21 years ago

Hello all

I have been working with a private company as a EE for the past 8 months after recently graduating with a Masters degree in EE. Job is ok but doesnt involve much design work which I feel is my interest and forte. I also got a promotion in the first few months itself. My manager told me that the upper management recognises my efforts. I am a workaholic by nature and have no problems in slogging my a** off.

Of late I’ve been feeling very dissatisfied with my job becoz its not that challenging and I feel I can do more elsewhere. Recently I saw this other job which was in a different location where I have friends and relatives. Up to this point, I never considered searching for a new job even though I wasn’t completely satisfied with my current job.
This new job has more design work and a more creative bent which is not present in my current job.

So my first question is
Is it ok for an engineer with less than 1 yr exoerience to jump from one job to another ? Will I be perceived as a job hopper ? (I should also say that I have just applied to the new company…thats all…no interviews of stuff yet)

Also I am planning to get an MBA in 4 or 5 yrs. I have already started preparing for that (like asking for jobs with more leadership roles and taking interest in the company’s financial performance evaluation and stuff like that) . So would a job hop look negative in an MBA application ? I am also not able to pursue many of my xtra curricular activities (which are vital for an MBA application) beocz I spend lots of time searching for jobs.

Please advice.
