NIC Card Problem

By qball0193 ·
I am trying to access the network with my laptop. I believe that everything is set up properly. I have several messages in event viewer that I believe is the root of the problem. "Unable to create the symbolic link for COM1"; "User configuration data for parameter COM2 overiding firmware configuration data"; "User configuration data for parameter COM1 overiding firmware configuration data"; "The Control Registers for COM1 overlaps with the COM1 control registers"; "User configuration for parameter device must have port address".
Can any of these messages be the cause of the problem. If so how do I correct them.

might need some more info...is this a combo nic/modem card? If so these errors could be cause by the modem as everything seems to be pointing to the COMs. Re-apply your SP. Maybe your modem drivers might need an update.

Are you accessing yournetwork via the NIC or modem (VPN) ?

Do you have a modem installed? Is it using Com1 or Com2? If not just delete the 2 comm ports in controll panel -- Ports. This shouldn't cause a problem with your NIC though unless your dialing in using RAS. From waht I understand your plugged directly into the net.
You may also want to check advanced under ports and make sure the settings there are either defualt or match your BIOS Settings.
Do you have any error messages about you Network Card not loading?

If this doesn't help save your log file and e-mail it to me and I'll see if I can help further....

Good Luck..

Are you using the comb card! What's the os...? If its win98, you need to download win 98 right drivers and re-install the files again. If its NT, you need to fine the nt drivers and reconfigure your irq settings for to use com port 2 for irq 3 and com1 for irq 4. If you want more info. please email at gil2521@yahoo.com.

hope its feasible for you...

If its a combo card there is a problem with the modem. Download the latest drivers and reinstall, in addition check your com ports.
