NIC failure

Hi,
I have a Compaq M700, (NT4SP6a, 512Mb RAM, 12Gb HD),with an onboard NIC failure .. I’ve attempted two alterantive cards through the PCMCIA ports with no joy …

Has any one any ideas please whether I can attempt to revive the NIC, or do I need to exchange the Motherboard …
I’m out of my depth here
