No access to C drive

By dheavner ·
Win2k user who was able to access C drive but now cannot. This happened after I gave myself rights to be a backup operator. They get an error message that
1. They do not have permission to access c:
2. The pagefile is too small
3. The properties of 'c' show '0 used space' and
'0 space available.
4. A specific icon to an application is missing
5. Explorer shows 'c' and 'My Documents'
I'm stuck! I have made no changes to the system other than access rights for backup. Help!!

Simply sounds like a full disk to me. Empty recycle bin if you can, enter with safe mode which will reduce the pagefile. Delete the temp folder contents, and if possible split the pagefile between the c drive and another drive.

You have to have to be a memeber of the administrative group in order to assign you permissions. Try logging on to your machine as the Adminstrator and change those persmissions that way!

-Hope that helps-

I've seen something similar if a user decides to change the permissions on C: and removes everyone but himself. When doing that, they remove SYSTEM and that causes problems, usually the "pagefile is too small" error. Check the permissions on C: and make sure SYSTEM is in there with full control.
