Look in the "device manager" and look for your "sound devices".

It might have a yellow or red tag next to it, right click on it and select "update drivers", press enter, then click on "browse computer for drivers" and then select another driver (if there is only one driver in there just click on this.) If no drivers exist you will need to delete the sound drivers and the sound device in the device manager and reboot your system. When the desktop appears reload on your sound drivers. Also make sure that they are related to Vista. If you have a on-board sound device then you will need to Ativate (enable) it in the bios.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

Did you get the Vista Drivers or ones for XP?

You can get the Vista Drivers here

However as this is a Realtech AC 97 Sound Device who do not supply Drivers to M$ for Digital Signing depending on what has been done to your NB to run Vista you may have a problem.

On a Clean New install of Vista there shouldn't be a problem but if you upgraded without first deleting XP it may prove impossible to install the Realtech Vista Sound Drivers and have a working sound device.
