No Communication with Printer

By don ·
Celeron 300/PC Chips M747 MB won't communicate with Cannon 7000 printer. Bi cable/parallel port OK. LPT1/ECP/EPP tried. Reinstalled updated drivers. No apparent irq conflicts. Won't print in DOS. Does work with one HD from previous install, not others. Cannon monitor program say's "port is being used by another device." ???? Any suggestions on what to do next? Thank you.

You may want, in DOS, go to the cannon directory and run setup. You will probably find that none of the settings match the windows settings. (DOS uses these settings) When you save the settings it will build a driver for DOS.

Had same type of problems with 4200.

Good Luck.

Hi,
I've seen a MB that wouldn't initialize its LPT port before PnP OS started. Solution was in BIOS setup. If it doesn't print in DOS, check with "msd.exe", does it see lpt port.

Delete your lptx ports definition under windows , power down, enter Bios set up and double check bidirectional paralell port (also check if the port is enabled)
Start windows and let windows recongize the new paralell port and reflect the changes.Change the Printer output to lpt1 and perform a page print.
If iot works, just capture the lpt1 port from the printer porperty dialog box.

Hope it helps!!!
