No dynamic disk on LAPTOP ??

The Windows 2000 Disk Management console does not support this upgrade on a laptop computer. Laptops usually only support a single internal hard disk, so they cannot take advantage of the advanced volume options that dynamic disks provide. Dynamic disks have advantages over basic disks only when there are two or more dynamic disks in the system. This feature permits the small 1MB database containing the disk partitioning and FT volume membership information to be replicated across all dynamic disks and provides a layer of redundancy.

NOTE : Users of laptop computers rarely have a use for FT volumes that can only be created on dynamic disks in Windows 2000. Also, if a laptop has a second hard disk contained in a docking station or otherexternal device, they will most likely be separated for long periods of time. Because of this, the database on the separated storage device would soon become out of date or contain false information, possibly resulting in data loss.

No dynamic disk on LAPTOP ??

Yes, like everyone has said, Win2k on laptops do not have the option to be upgraded to Dynamic Disks.
BUT, I was able to get my laptop to upgrade once. I still, to this day, do not know what I did to make it work.
I use my laptop for experimentation and for testing, so I am always reinstalling and formatting and partitioning oh my!
I think that I was able to get it to go to Dynamic when I had Win2k Server installed on it one time. I think it was just a quirk. I can't exactly tell you what I did (the OS install process) to get it to work.
But now, with Win98 and Win2k Pro on it, I cannot get it to change to Dynamic.
Oh well....
