No external network after changing NIC

By jheinle ·
After changing the nic in my W2K Server I lost connection to the internet. I configured it to the identical parameters as the original NIC and it worked for about 8 hours. The next morning I still had my internal network but had lost the internet. The W2K box is running active directory with DHCP and DNS being handled it.

It has been quite q while since I did any W2K work so please ask questions for any info I may have left out.

Thanks in advance

Open the Network and Dail Connections

Then use the Advanced option and then the Advanced Settings menu.

Check to be sure your new nic is at the top in Adapters and Bindings.

Virus free and resetting router didn't help.

Stupid mistake. I didn't disable the onboard adapter. It was still in the routing table before the new NIC. The gb NIC was accepting the traffic but the disconnected NIC was trying to send the traffic back out. Once the onboard NIC was disabled life was good.
