No fixed disk error after the pc was ok

    Locked

    by nkhan ·

I just installed a new 40 GB hard drive in my pc about 4 months ago. The system was working fine and then one day it froze and shutdown by itself. When I reboot it I get the no fixed disk error. Any suggestions???

    Thanx!

Do some of the normal things:

      1. Check the BIOS for proper settings.
      2. Check all ribbon cables.
      3. Run OEM diagnostics for ECC/CRC errors.

After doing the above steps, and it still doesn’t respond you can go to the manufacturers website and fill out an RMA form to get a new drive from them. I recently went through the same thing and I received a new drive in short order.
      Good luck!Mike
ps. if you still have the original sales receipt, just take it to where you bought it and exchange it for a new one.

      Hi,
Also you can try to boot your computer from a boot diskette (you don’t say which is your OS) and check if the partitions are OK or if you can access the HDD.
Maybe you have a software problem.
Post more detail (in a comment) about your OS andtests with boot diskette (here you can find different boot diskette images: http://www.bootdisk.com).

I got a similar problem. Traced to a burnt out harddisk component/ power shot/spike. To recover your data, get an exact similar disk (esp crashed one) carefully remove circuit board and mount on yours. Repaired disk will/might have bad sectors.
