NO Internet!

By jimbo67 ·
I work part time for doctor. We have 14 workstations running with SBS 2003. Its kinda mixed with mostly XP pro and one machine running XP home. We have a Cisco 800 as our router. I have been told to take away internet to about half the computers while still allowing them to get to the server. I know I can do this at the router level but I am looking for a way to do it in WinXP...Any ideas would be great!

A quick and easy solution

by The Ref In reply to NO Internet!

1. change the default gateway to a non existant address.
2. add / change the proxy to a non existant address

Doing both would fix most scenarios.

Proxy

by Choppit In reply to A quick and easy solution

Although I have more userproof methods at my disposal such as MAC/IP filtering I setting proxy = 127.0.0.1 still works well for me. I suppose it really depends how savvy your users are.

Either way should work, but ...

You'd better get the "No internet" in writing, then frame it outside your office.

Else you will have to listen to a 24/7/365 chorus closely reminscent of scalded dogs, yowling cats and nails on the blackboard.
