No Internet

I have a system that connects to the internet via external modem. It connects fine. But no other internet service will work. When trying to open a browser there is no delay in telling you it can?t connect. I reset the TCP/IP and repaired IE6 also ran Spy ware scan and virus scan. Anyone got any other moves I can try?
