No Internet

By pzhamilton ·
I have a Windows XP machine that has a cable connection. It can release and renew IP's but IE and Netscape will not access the internet. I have tried pinging the DNS, Gateway and DHCP but no luck. Any suggestions?

Have you recently replaced the NIC? Some cable companies require the MAC address from the NIC or router. If not that then I would delete and re-install the NIC drivers.

Not being able to ping may or may not be an issue, depending on whether or not your ISP allows that over their network. I have seen this problem once personally on my WinXP computer. I can't remember exactly where it is but something under internet options/security got changed. Try relooking at your settings there and check your XP firewall settings. Hope this helps.
