no keyboard, mouse, monitor, upon reboot, until 30 min. later

My son, with the help of a friend, just built his 1st computer.
I wasn’t there, so am not sure what they did. As he describes it, I’m at a bit of a loss as to what might be causes of the problem.

This is a high-end, gaming system, AMD processor, SLI nvidia card, 750 wt psu, SATA HDD, not sure what all else. It’s not connected to the internet.

When they started it, it ran fine: he said they got XP on then the motherboard (DFI) drivers. All seemed okay.

Upon reboot, there was nothing. No keyboard, mouse, monitor and he thought, no HDD as well.

However, 30 minutes later, everything is fine.

I thought at 1st a PSU problem–something overheating after system fans go off and that was killing things. But he says when he tries the restart, the case fans come on. So the PSU is at least working part way.

I thought okay, probably a video driver. He says the video card works okay in another system. Which still doesn’t mean the driver on “his” system is okay. He tried another video card in his system and the same thing. –no reboot, until 30 minutes has gone by.

Then I thought, could be a BIOS problem and the system is hibernating?

Still suspect though, the video driver. but with it working fine, then failing, and no keyboard to get into safe mode or even BIOS, where do we go from here?

I realize this isn’t much info to go on, I’ll give more as i get it. Maybe you have some ideas where to start?
He said he ordered a new mobo, but has to send this one back 1st, which he doesn’t want to do if that’s not the problem.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks…
