No log On Server Available With Trusts

By nmoore ·
We have a complete trust model in a NT 4 network. There are 6 domains. Four of the domains are fine, but when trying to browse the other two domains or connect to a PC from another domain the error "No Log On server is available" is recieved.
All PDC's and domains have correct LMHOSTS entries.
Using domain monitor from the reskit the two domains that are unreachable show 'PDC Not Found'.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this.

Do you have an entry of the form:
10.10.10.11 "ONEDOMAIN 0x1C" #PRE
in the LMHOSTS files of the PDCs? You'd need one entry for each domain. The IP address is that of the PDC for that domain. Also, when you have problem trusts like that, you need to be able to reboot your PDCs often. Finally, are you also using WINS? Check your WINS databses for dynamic entries for the domains. Make sure only the IP address of the PDC for each domain are associated with the domain name. Although it does look like you can have multiple domain controllers mapped (i.e., PDC and BDCs), it does not work as advertised.

It seems unlikely but, are you using SBS on the other two domains ? SBS does not support trust relationships.
