No mouse/ keyboard after install driver

By richhocker ·
Upgraded WinME Gateway system to XPHome...all went fine. Then tried to install updated Keyboard driver for XP. That processed locked up computer and subsequent reboots provide no keyboard or mouse. Tried to recover last known config but still no mouse or keyboard. How can I reinstall original drivers or entire XP? Can't use Safe Mode w/o keyboard/mouse. Can I restore driver from DOS prompt using packed file in i386 folder on XP disc?...if so, how?

You could boot to a command prompt and do a system restore and go back in time to before you updated the driver. Here is the link on how to do it.;en-us;304449&sd=tech
I hope this helps you.

This is most likely caused by service(s) that was created when you updated the driver. Now the service starts when booting to Windows and it conflicts with your KB and mouse.

Boot Windows to Repair Console.

Use LISTSVC command to list Services and DISABLE command to disable any KB and Mouse related service.

If you need more info, please add a comment.

Several things, system restore is the easiest. If it fails, try to boot into safe mode. If you can then go to device manager and roll back the driver, if not, then boot with a different keyboard, or if it is USB, plug the keyboard in a different USB slot.
