I am unable to look at computers in the "My Network Places" on my WIN 2000 Pro machine. Our Windows 2000 Server seems to be fine as other clients can see things in the network neighborhood fine and also other WIN 2000 Pro machines seem to be fine.On my machine I also cannot issue a "net view" from a command prompt. I get the following error:
Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-1999 Microsoft Corp.

c>net view
System error 6118 has occurred.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available

anybody have a clue as to what I messed up on my computer and more importantly how I can fix it? Thanks

Make sure you have all the required entries in WINS and/or the lmhosts
file. Specifically, look for the DOMAIN<0x1b> records. They are unique
records containing the IP address of the respective PDC. If you are
missing them, you'll need to create a lmhosts file which you can then
either import into your WINS server or place on each machine that needs
to know this info. The format is

x.x.x.x "DOMAINNAME \0x1b" #PRE

Note: The length of DOMAINNAME and the following spaces should total 15
characters.

we are using a windows 2000 server with active directory for our dhcp, wins, and dns servers. All machines are using it and mine is the only one with problems.

I got an error 64 twice this afternoon chen I ran the "net view" command. As I was checking into it, it ran fine again. I will see if this lasts and if it stays fixed I will remove this question as it has magically resolved itself! I love Windows!!!

I tried it again this morning and got the System error 6118 again. :-( If anyone has an idea that will resolve this I would love to give you the points.
