No network login dialogue on startup

By prelph ·
I have a small home network, Win98SE and Win95. The Win98SE box refuses to offer the Login dialogue on startup, logging on as Default. I have to then logoff to get the dialogue, which then works ok. I have TCP/IP and Netbeui installed. I have previously deleted the .pwl file and reinstalled networking.

Go to your Control Panel and look for a TWEAKUI icon in it. TWeakui has an autologon feature that can be enabled so that you clear the user and the password in it and you are fine.

If that's not the problem, then go to Control Panel --> Network and make sure your default logon is on the Client for MS Networks.

I have ran acrossed this problem before. You need to go to control panel/system/network adaptor and uninstall your network card.Restart the machine and allow it to re-install your card. That should solve your problem.

I've given the points to this answer because it involved reinstalling the network card which I may not have done previously. Reinstalling the network card and MS networking solved the problem.

If you don't have the TweakUI on your control panal. you can do it by editing you registry.

1. Run "regedit"
2. Goto "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVision\Network\Real Mode Net"
3. On the right windows of the registry Editor, Righ click and select "New\Binary Value"
4. Key "Autologon" for the Binary Value name and "0" for the data

Hope this will help

I would first just uninstall Client for Microsoft Networks, and Microsoft Family Logon. Then just install Client for Microsoft Networks alone. I would also look at the Properties of Client for Microsoft Networks, to make sure that "quick logon" isnot enabled. If it is, change that to "Logon on and restore Network connections."

Try that before going through the trouble of the more detailed aspect. I had something exactly the same happen to me, this solved it.
