Yesterday, my son downloaded something off Limewire.
He disabled the Anti spyware program.
The result was a blank screen later , when I came to
use it.
When I realized what had happened, I tried to
restart, but to no avail.
I tried the XP pro OS disc, but that would not run
past “setup is installing windows”.
I have Knoppix live disc which a friend gave me. I am
now able to access the internet with this(which is
how I am talking to you!) However, that is only by
using a clunky boot up i.e. `knoppix acpi=off noapic
pci=bios`. Any other config will not load!
I have used tha partitioning tool on Knoppix to
reformat the drive. I have tried all combinations of
unformatted, ntfs and fat32.
Whatever way, whenever I try to load the XP pro OS
disc, it stops at the above.
Also, I tried a Ubuntu disc. This also stops at the
beginning of the boot up?
What has happened?
I would have thought that by reformatting the HD it
would be a `clean sheet` ?
Any hep would be appreciated. I have a limited
knowledge of hardware systems guys, so please try to
avoid `techie talk`.
Thanks
Chris
