We have a computer at work that I was told booted up and couldn’t see the HDD. It is a PII MMX 233Mhz. It was determined that the IDE 1 controller on the Motherboard was bad when the ribbon cable for the HDD was connected to IDE 2 controller and Bios was set to boot to the Secondary Master. It booted up fine at that point. Then a decision was made to switch the motherboard out with a parts computer identical to the PC we were having problems with even though they were not sure if the Motherboard on the parts computer was in working fashion. Turns out that when everything was switched over it wouldn’t boot. The Motherboards were then switched back to the original computers. However, now the Motherboard that had the bad IDE 1 connector will not boot either. It doesn’t even get through the POST. When you press the Power button on the PC the fan on the processor works and the power and HDD lights blink continuously with no beeps and no display on the monitor. The computer can only be turned off by disconnecting the power cord. Using the power button to turn off the computer doesn’t work after you start it. All cards have been removed and it does the same thing. All cards and the HDD will work if interchanged with a working computer. Is this a Motherboard failure or a problem with the BIOS chip? Is there any way to correct this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
