No printer is available - error coming

By tkl1 ·
In windows98 network,
All of a sudden when we print thru' office 2000 or any application, "no printer is connected"is coming. The printers actually are connected via network and loacal port. This problem occurs 3 or 4 times in week.

After this Ihave to reload the printer driver and delete the old driver thru contol panel of windows98.

Suggest some permanent soln with out reloading Win98.

Bhasgaran.

More info please - what kind of network OS? You say printers are connected via network and local port - explain? One network printer, one local printer...both give errors when printed to? Is this problem exclusive to one machine? When you get the error, and look at your Printers folder on that machine, is the printer still listed? How are the network printers set up...ie, what kind of port do you have them using?

Does an error msg regarding spool32 errors appear?? I'm under the impression that you have removed and reinstalled the printer drivers already and choose the replace driver when prompted. Then run Scandisk and defrag on the workstation besure to rundiskclean up first to clean up the temp folder files, also check the printers spool folder and delete any files you find there as it should be empty if your not currently printing. Next you could try running the check system files application from the system information window in 98 replace any corrupt files that it reports and be sure to back them up before recovery. If problem persists, do a manual recovery or the spool32.dll file from the system information panel once again always backup any recovered files first.
