No settings tab on display properties

By tdigirolamo ·
I've seen this happen in NT and now in 2000 when a system is configured to log on to our Domain. Certain users, even though configured as an administrator, will not get a settings tab under display properties. They have full administrative privelages for anything else. Loading apps, etc.

No settings tab on display properties

by petenjodi In reply to No settings tab on displa ...

The answer according to the Micro-Soft Knowledge base, that has worked for me in the past is the following:
SYMPTOMS
After you install or upgrade to Windows 2000, you may lose the capability to use high resolution screen settings in your Display properties.

CAUSE
This issue may occur because of an effect called mode pruning.

RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, verify that the monitor selected is the correct monitor you are using with your computer. To do this:

Click the Start menu, point to Settings, point to Control Panel, and then click Properties.

Click the Setings tab.

Click the Advanced button.

Click the Monitor tab.

The monitor selected for your computer is displayed in the Monitor Type section.

If the monitor displayed in the Monitor Type section is not the monitor you are currently using:
Perform the steps above, and then click Properties.

Click the Driver tab.

Click the Update Drivers button.

Click Next after the Upgrade Device Drive Wizard starts.

Click the Display a list of the known drivers radio button, and then click Next.

Click the Show all hardware of this device class radio button. This provides a list of monitor manufacturers and models.

Select the manufacturer of your monitor, and then select the model from the left-side pane.

Best regards,

Pete

Do you have a W2K AD domain? Perhaps there is a GPO in effect which is removing the settings tab?

Thanks
