No Sound!

By nhughes79 ·
I have installed a new sound card (Sound Blaster Live!) for one of my users and downloaded the drivers for the card from the internet. However when i plugged in the speakers and played a sound file, no sound is coming out.

any sound file that isexecuted, plays fine on screen, its just that no actual sound is heard.

I've even adjusted the sound properties and midi playback...but to no avail

Any help would be appreciated.
Kind Regards

Neil Hughes

I read somewhere that a VIA chipset didn't work all too well with the SBLive card so you should check your MOBO and Bios! Update it if neccessary! Otherwise try moving your card to another empty slot! Also check that you have your speakers in the correct plug!

If worse comes to worse put the card into another machine to see if it works there! If not chances are your card is faulty!

Hopefully this even remotely helps!

Are your speakers amplified?

Most of the newer sound cards cannot drive even headphones.

You can double check that the speakers are working by plugging them into a walkman.

One check to see if the computer has onboard sound,if so you will need to open the CMOS panel and disable the onboard sound, then check the line to make sure that it is plugged into correct socket on card.
Check the documentation that came with cardto show the correct socket to plug into.

Is this from only CD based sounds or sound files on the local hard drive?

If it's from a CD, check the CD drive properties and see if it is enabled to playback sounds as digital audio. I had a similar problem in the past, and mine was not set (for some unknown reason) to playback audio as digital.

Another place to look for digital audio settings is in the audio control panel.

Best of luck...

Check your 'system properties' in the control panel and make sure the correct IRQ (11)is assigned to the sound card. Also make sure the card is not conflicting with any hardware.
