I JUST REFORMATTED WITH A LARGER HARD DRIVE (160GB)......AND ITS ORIGINAL WAS A 40GB HARD DRIVE...

I INSTALLED WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION....WHICH IS WHAT IT CALLS FOR.....

I INSTALLED ALL THE DRIVERS FROM THE DRIVERS DISC......AND I HAVE NO SOUND.....

EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE.....EXCEPT THE SOUND , WHICH SHOWS AS WORKING PROPERLY AND THE MEDIA PLAYERS PLAY FINE.....JUST NO SOUND

WHAT DO I DO NOW ???

MY RESENTMENT FOR TOSHIBA LAPTOPS IS GROWING....

Okay...#1 lay off the "caps lock"....

It's seen as "Shouting" in the forum...

Do you have a "speaker" icon in the lower right corner of your display?

If you do, click it & make sure the mute is not checked.

Have you looked in the control panel under sound to see if everything is enabled?

Have you looked in device manager to see if the sound card shows up there? If it does, try updating the driver.

That's a couple things to quickly try...get back to us.

It's more a "world wide standard"...I'm surprised you haven't run into it before.....in any case...

You said you tried installing a conexant driver also....I wonder if you got it a little messed up now....

Have you tried uninstalling the sound card (and all codecs) from device manager....give it a reboot & let XP "re-detect" the sound card?

I just live and work here....I'm just passionate about the way i write...

Every time i post a question here , my caps are more important than the problem....and its because of the caps why i always end up in direct or indirect confrontations.......ppl just like to complain about anything....There's always an issue...

Anyway...like i said...i meant no harm , and i wasn't shouting...and i appreciate your help and your humor....and in addition , i think Canadians are the coolest ppl around....i used to live in Newfoundland...

Now , as for uninstalling and re-installing , i tried that too.....same result...

Again , i appreciate you Darryl , my guess is this problem cannot be fixed.....

I'm thinking about the motherboard...

by POINTMAN8883 In reply to LOL....I'm not from Texas ...

I figure if i can find out what kind of motherboard it is......maybe i can go directly to the website of that manufacturer and see if they have new drivers....

What you think ??

Ah, we have a Newfie here... :)

My son is in university over there....they're very nice people :)

I don't know about it being the motherboard....it really doesn't seem likely....a little trick I was taught many years ago when laptops were sort of "new" was to tighten all the screws on the bottom of the case...I always doublecheck that.

Toshiba may be able to detect your motherboard model....check the support site....here's a link...

I'd be careful about flashing the BIOS....pretty much a last resort.

It appears you've covered most "software" issues already......does the laptop have a "recovery" partition for reinstalling XP or do you have to do it by CD?
