No sound since Windows 7

by brifd1 . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

I have an old Gateway 7330GZ laptop.
A friend installed Windows 7 Release Candidate on it. I haven’t used something with sound on it for awhile, but I know it had sound at some point before this. As for now, the volume bar is up. The driver shows as the most current in Device Manager; no question mark, either. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. I tried plugging in speakers to see if I’d get sound. Last week, I installed the full-blown version of Windows 7 (Home Premium). Last night, I scoured websites in search of potential drivers. One of those driver update programs indicated there was an update, but nowhere else did. It’s an Intel…AC ’97. As an aside, the Intel site, in essence disavows that it’s an Intel, though, with the message something like unrecognized. Any ideas???
