No sound, Win 2K IBM Thinkpad T22 Help, please

I have dumped and reinstalled drivers. There are two question marks in device drivers that I can’t figure out what they are. The automatic search for the drivers comes up kaput. In AUDIO -Sound Playback it’s greyed out with NO PREFERRED DEVICES. The other two have preferred devices in the boxes (Crystal Sound Fusion). I don’t know what to do at this point, have been looking for an answer for two whole days. I have been to the Thinkpad website, the sound card website, and haven’t found anything that is helpful. Not a computer expert, unfortunately. Thanks for any suggestions.

Then open the Computer Management Console and right click on one of the yellow circles and chose Update.

This will install the necessary drivers from the recovery CD and allow that particular Unidentified Item to run. When you have finished with that one do the same thing on the other one and that should have all your hardware installed & Running properly.

If you don’t have the Recovery CD available down load the complete Drivers from IBM’s Web Site and install as necessary for Y2K and you’ll have the system working again in no time at all and you’ll most likely have the newest drivers possible installed as well.

I tried downloading all of the drivers and reinstalling, and no luck. All I get is beeps, and before I did whatever I did to mess the thing up (I think it was REALPLAYER that was the culprit, install-uninstall) the sound worked great. I’m bummed. I’m no expert, either, so it’s a challenge…

The question marks prove that windows has detected the sound card. Now you need to install the drivers manually from the cd. Right click on the question marks and click driver update and install from the cd by looking for the device driver’s name or the .ini file on the cd. Sorry I don’t have a Win 2000 machine with me now, I cannot be more specific, you’ll figure it out.

I’d try these two things first

I’d double check to see if any changes were done in my bios even though the odds are low.

Next I’d uninstall the software and drivers as unloading and reloading the drivers will not always be a fix for it.
If you don’t know how to do that click on start, then settings, then control panel, then add remove programs. Uninstall the software, it should uninstall the drivers as well. Reboot, reinstall the software. This should get your audio back. If not, try looking into Problem devices listed in the component area of your system information.
The last and final thing I would suggest is looking at your windows sound configuration although I doubt that is the problem. Hope this helps you out

First I’d uninstall the software for Crystal Sound Fusion, not just the drivers. You can do that by looking in your add / remove software and uninstalling it. Reboot and reinstall the software which will reload the program as well as the drivers. Make sure you check your bios so your sound is set up correctly while rebooting and before reinstalling your software. If that doesn’t work, have a look in your system information
and see if there are any problem devices. If not, the last thing I’d try is a system restore assuming you have a restore point.

1) First uninstall your crystal sound fusion by going into Add/Remove programs in the control panel. You may also like to uninstall sound drivers from the device manager. For this goto My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device manager.
Under the Sound, Video and game controllers, remove the audio drivers.
2) Next Press F5 button on the keyboard or press “Scan for hardware changes” button in the device manager.
3) If it finds audio drivers, it will install correctly else you need to provide the correct drivers.
For this goto
http://www.driverguide.com and search for your sound card driver.

4) Recommended option: You can download a utility called driver guide toolkit from this site: http://www.driverguide.com.
Install this DGT.exe on your system and scan for any hardware changes/drivers etc.
If prompted, download those drivers.
5) Restart the system and you must be all set.

I had a problem with an R61 after i wiped HDD and then installed XP – no sound device present, won’t load driver. Modem wouldn’t load drivers either.Turns out you need to load “Universal Audio Architecture High Definition Audio class driver for Win XP SP2”

Managed to find this on IBM support site – it had been moved from original location. Once i loaded this the sound and modem loaded fine.
