No Start Up Screen...

By cyberghost_1 ·
I have used many System and Tweaking Utilities on my PC, for some reason, I guess on accident, I did something that DISABLED my Start Up Picture. The Shutdown Picture is still functioning. Now, when ever I start or reboot my PC, I get the "Starting Windows 98..." messege. What can I do to disable this messege so that my Start Up Pic can work again? My OS is Win98SE, Compaq Presario 5000. Any comments or instructions will be greatly appreciated !!! ASAP !!!
For reference, the Start up/Shutdown screens are part of a theme I have. They have always worked, until recently. I know I didn't delete any part of the App. They run independantly, like I said they Shutdown Screen still works. So why won't the Start Up screen work?

I remember when people used to tweak around with the logo.sys file to alter the startup screen. IE some pinup or football team etc. Have a look for this file, needs to live in the C: root. If you can't find it anywhere, think you can extract it from somewhere in the original cab files. (maybe you could lift it from another W98 box? You would need to attrib this system file to copy.)

Good luck

Sorry the logo.sys file only applies to windows 95. In windows 98 the screen is animated not a static image.

My advice would be to un-install your theme software entirely. Then do a repair install of windows 98. You will not need to re-install your programs or re-enter settings.

I have reinstalled the Theme package, still only the shutdown screen works. Any other options?

well, you know you don't have a virus, right?
how about a corrupt startup image file? do you know the file it uses. can you replace it with a backup copy. can you run scandisk with fix switch perhaps a thorough and see if we it might fix the possibly corrupt file...otherwise i go with ed's suggestion

No Virus, ran Scandisk, and the file isn't corrupt.

Im very tempted to say that the problem itself is Windows 98. Period.

Oh... I didnt say that
