No VPN with Windows 2000

I am not able to connect to a remote network via VPN with my Windows 2000 Pro station, though I am able to get access with my Windows 98 laptopn sitting on the same network as the 2000 station. Both are sitting on my local NT4 domain connected to the internet with a SMC Barricade router through a dial-up connection. The remote location is using a Cisco 827 ADSL router/modem using PPTP for the tunnel.
