no win 2000 with win98

By avand1 ·
I have win98 on my system and want to install
win2000. I have a patition for it and the
install program is loaded but I get a "boot
device error" before the complete install. I
have run a virus scan and checked in cmos.
All else works great, why won't win2000 [pro]
install?

Hi,
Well, you really didn't say how you are trying to install win2kp. After you get a boot device error then what?..are you able to boot into win98? Are you installing on IDE drives or SCSI? If you can boot from the cdrom then put the win2k cd inthe drive and configure your cmos to boot the system from the cdrom drive...make sure the virus protection in cmos is turned off...
Thank you for the post..jer

I may be wrong but I think that if you have the boot partition(C:) formatted with fat32 you can not load 2000 on it. You cannot load 2000 on the d: drive because it need to access the boot partition. Now if you loaded 2000 first then loaded 98 then it would be ok because the boot partition would be fat16. Just remember that if you are going to format with NTFS 98 will not see it.
