Noisy Fan

By archu_a ·
I have a new Toshiba 1135-S1554 laptop with Windows XP which has a very loud and noisy fan. The fan comes up every 1-2 minutes and is extremely annoying. Looking for help to resolve this issue. I would like to know if this is a common issue. Please help

Does it sound like bad bearings?
Or, is it just from the amount of air that the fan moves?

If it is bearing noise, you should contact Toshiba and have a service center change the fan.

If it is from the amount of air the fan moves, you may need alternate / additional cooling to stop the noise.
There are products that attach to the bottom of a laptop to help cool it down.

If no longer under warranty, open it up and the fan will have a small sticker covering the oil reservoir in the middle. Carefully remove the sticker and use ONE drop of thin machine oil (sewing machine oil for eg.)to the bearing. REPLACE the sticker and if needed tack it with a tiny drop of glue to hold it on.

OR

Remove the fan and replace it with a new one, usually not necessary as the bearings simply dry up.

If your computer is under warranty, call support.

The fan is going to high speed for additional cooling.

Unless the fan has a bearing noise or sounds like it is wobbling, this is normal operation for Toshiba.

Clean the blades with a qtip. Dirt on the blades will cause more turblence as the air moves through. This will result in more noise.

If it is squeeling or wobbling then you need to replace it.
