Sounds like either the cover is pressing on a wire or cable

and causing a short circuit, or there is a cracked solder connection, and the cover puts force on a cable, opening the connection.

Have never looked inside a nook....If there are any ribbon cables, carefully unplug and re-seat them, there typically are hinged locks which hold ribbon cables in place.

Inspect any visible solder connections, especially for ribbon connectors, under magnification to see if you see any cold solder connections or cracked traces.

Also look closely for signs of a ribbon cable or wire misrouted/pinched/damaged during assembly.

If there is a water detector patch (white sticker with pink dots), make sure it has not gone all pink (if unit got wet).
