    Nortel Annex Terminal Server question

    by purcellj ·

I’m trying to figure out a pinout for a Nortal Annex Terminal server for a device using a standard RS-232 DB25 connector. After reviewing the pinout info from Nortel my customer is still unable to gain communication. The device(s) worked previously on a Synoptics 3395 terminal server card w/out incident. My device has xmit on black (2), rcv on yellow (6), grounds are red & green(4&5). Help?

      Hi,

I don’t know about the models from Nortel but I think I remember when they were from Xylogics the Annex could be configured on a port-by-port basis to be connected to a DTE or DCE (basically the send and receive reversed).

The cable comingout of the Annex had to be ordered for DCE or DTE. Cables were for 4 (or 6?) ports at a time

BTW your pinout is wrong: TX is 2 and RX is 3 while DSR is 6; 4 and 5 are RTS and CTS; grounds are 1 and 7. See http://www.cablingdirectory.com/pinouts/parallelserial/RS232DB25Pinout.htm

      Hope this helps.

The pinout I’ve described is correct. Please note this is from the device side. The individual device is expecting xmit on pin 2, etc.
Thanks though, I’ve already figured it out.
