both of which

are NOT antivirus programs...they are malware removal programs. I personally recommend avast free for home for an antivirus http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Unless you purchase MBAM,

which then provides a resident scanner.

But MBAM is, indeed, more of a "clean up what AV missed" application, so you should probably always have another resident AV.

And the latest MS MSRT comes with every Patch Tuesday updates anyway.

Norton is not so bad

by chandanmunshi In reply to Norton a realy bad antivi ...

I personally use Norton 360 in my home desktop. I purchased this AV after judging Bit Defender, Trend micro and ESET NOD32 and found that those AVs ware taking huge resources, specially Bit Defender made my PC slower at boot time, although some review sites are making Bit Defender as No#1. But my personal experience is different and my vote goes to Norton 360. It is absolutely light weight.

Agreed Chandan, I've been using Norton 360 for several months and it has stopped several viruses from getting through and it uses little resources to run.

A better Product is Spyware Doctor w/ AV

by reviewsgirl In reply to Norton a realy bad antivi ...

If you want antivirus and Malware removal all in one you may want to consider Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. I believe they are owned by the same company that owns Norton and I have used it to remove Malware and other infections and it works great. Just as good as MBAM for malware removal and has AV protection.
