Norton CrashGuard Troubles

By Vollie6 ·
I have a COMPAQ Presario (1999) running Windows ME. Recently, my cable company had to get rid of 5 separate virus' off of my PC. They must have installed Norton CrashGuard while working on it. Now, I keep getting error windows, on start-up, telling me some errors was detected. It's a blue screen stating that Norton CrashGuard has detected an error (there are several different errors).

I went into the start-up and deleted Norton CrashGuard from there.

Now I get nothing. No icons. All I see is the wallpaper.

Please advise.

Start in safe mode. Try to remove Crashguard through Add/Remove programs. If that doesn't work, delete all Norton and Symantec folders from HDD, then search registry and delete all Norton and Symantec references. It is not a quick fix, but it will work. Afterward, reinstall whatever, if any, Symantec programs that were previously installed.

Or, you state you went into the start-up - does that mean the startup folder, or msconfig and unchecked all Norton Crashguard items? If it was just the startup folder, boot in Safe Mode, run msconfig and uncheck all Norton Crashguard references.
