Norton Ghost not recognizng ext HDD

I am currently using a laptop which has Windows XP and Norton Ghost 2003 installed. I would like to ghost an image onto my external USB 2.0 HDD but I am unable too. I followed the wizard and used USB 1 and 2 drivers as well as a boot disk. If anyone can help me out with this, I’d appreciate it.
